A Sense of Place meme, anyone?
The postcards we’re all sending around inspired this idea, in part. For the longest time I’ve had the idea of chronicling where I live.
Jack Nolan’s barber shop was in business on the Woodstock, Illinois Square for 45 years. The place is an astonishing museum of sorts, with Navy memorabilia from his 38 months in the service, and other odds and ends and family photos. Nolan retired in 2008, but the sign on the window remains.
So far I’ve stuck everything in a photoset on flickr called A Sense of Place (many  are viewable only if you’re added as my friend on flickr due to random pervs faving pics of my kids; just add me if you haven’t yet and I’ll return the favor).
I think it would be fun if each of us documented where we lived once a week on tumblr. Yeah, we won’t (necessarily) be taking our shirts off (unless you’re into that sort of thing), but we can share a memory, a story, something we love or hate or that defines or demonstrates where we live. No need to name your home town if you don’t want to; just try it out and have fun. Or don’t.
Feel free to reblog or write a summary of the meme when you do so others can join the fun. Post it on weekends, when most of us seem to have the most free time. Or whenever. Can you tell I don’t care about structure?
Who’s in?

I like this idea… I have a set on Flickr called “Home Sweet Home” and I throw all my pictures from my home town in there…
